Netted Nave
Friday 9/9, I had my first post-earthquake view inside the (still closed) cathedral. The nave & transepts now have a debris net hanging about 70 feet
off the floor, to catch any additional falling bits of mortar. In the 25 minutes I was inside, several areas of new water damage could be seen--
the limestone absorbs water, and the dampness eventually becomes a very unsightly dark-to-black stain on the lighter stone; the leaks have to be
found and fixed first, then the stone allowed to dry out at length; only then can stain removal be attempted.
