Freedom's Dome
The 8.9 million pound cast iron marvel that is the dome of the U.S. Capitol. 180 feet above, the canopy mural is about 70 feet in diameter.
Named "The Apotheosis of Washington", it shows George Washington ascending heavenward flanked by Victory and Liberty, and 13 maidens
representing the original colonies. The 6 other perimeter groupings represent Science, Marine, Agriculture, Mechanics, Commerce and War;
War shows winged Victory defeating both Tyranny and Kingly Power to form a free nation.
