Inner Workings
A few of the 24 geared cams encircling the large central gear, which move huge deadbolts into place, pushing
them through the perimeter of the 8-foot diameter door to the Chicago Board of Trade's basement vault room.
The machined components of the vault were beautiful; a mix of gleaming bronze and brushed steel.
The vault was opened to the public for the first time in 83 years, as part of the C.A.F. Open House Weekend.
